When buyers ask why one quote is 30% higher than another, the answer is almost always hidden in these five variables rather than in “factory margin”.

Why quantity matters so much
Every custom order carries one-time costs — screen or plate setup, artwork preparation, sample production, machine changeover. This is why the per-unit price curve is steepest at low volumes and flattens quickly after the first few thousand pieces.
What should be in a proper quotation
- Exact material spec (composition, weight, color) — not just “cotton bag”.
- Dimensions, handle type and construction details with a spec sheet or drawing.
- Print method, colors and number of positions.
- Packing method (poly bag, hangtag, carton spec, carton quantities) and carton dimensions/weights.
- Incoterm (FOB, EXW, DDP…), lead time and payment terms.
If a quote omits these, the “low price” usually changes after details are locked. Comparing quotes line by line is the fastest way to spot the real differences.
